Galvin thrilled by senior medal

Cratloe's John Galvin.

John Galvin is delighted to have got his hands on a senior championship medal in unlikely circumstances.

The veteran Limerick midfielder, who missed out on the club season in his native county with Croom this year, completed an eleventh-hour transfer to Cratloe in Clare and bagged a SFC souvenir on Sunday last - having never played senior club football prior to 2014!

"I have been living in Cratloe for the last four years so I know a lot of the lads already," the former All Star nominee notes in The Irish Examiner. "I am living at the entrance to the GAA field so it was an easy switch.

"In a way I can't believe I am after winning a county senior medal. Not only did I never win one before, I never played senior football before.

"I'm absolutely delighted with that and we get to go into Munster championship football now which is amazing as well.

"There was a lot of pressure coming into the final, there was a lot of talk of doubles. We started the game absolutely fantastic, we got a great start but just drifted away for the last 20 minutes of the first half before getting on top again.

"To get a senior title is absolutely fantastic and my first year ever playing senior club football, to win a county medal is absolutely brilliant. I'm thrilled with it.

"I suppose when you go to a new club you push yourself that bit harder. You try and look good in front of the lads when you get there. It really regenerates the batteries and gives you slightly new lease of life, I'm really enjoying it. They are a great bunch."
