What team should have gone out against Roscommon

(Oldest Posts First)

Tomsmith here
Standing and looking at this pathetic display I wonder what went wrong and in fairness to our home grown manager I just simply ask the following questions
No 1 what team would you have put out against Roscommon ??
No 2 What changes could have been made??
No 3 Should we now start Divisional team??
No big long winded replies please

1618044 Delighted by the win
Delighted by the fans that came good crowd
Cavan must have the worst set up I ever saw I was humiliated for them in first half the way he set up with wind I knew once we got 3 or 4 up they would come out and play and we would hammer them
Leitrim put up more of a show
I felt so sorry for them cause they have talent
Just a clueless set up

Tomsmith back live to you.
While this poster has 47 previous posts look at the way that others see us.
I must add that with some degree of remorse I have to agree with some of his sentiments

Of almost 1000 views and with 48 Hours gone not a single person has come up with a better team than what Mr Hyland put out against Roscommon

Tomsmith, why was Paul O'Connor or Enda Reilly not given a go? Apparently Kevin Tierny is injured, and along with Dunnie, why not put on proper scoring forwards and also ball winners that have delivered at U21 and also Leinster Junior levels. We Are Going backwards!!!! We haven't played well since the McKenna Cup Final, before the big SSSSSSHHHHHHHHH

just reading your post i take it in your time you were a top class footballer who never had a bad game i have no problem with any man giving constuctive critizm but now your been down right nasty to a good group of lads who have given up a lot of time and energy in all honesty your only letting your self down

Re(asitis)
I'm 45years following Cavan, I wasn't a talented footballer.
I tell you what I am and that's gullible.
I've fallen hook line and sinker about the great panel we have.
I've said it before, with all the u21s we produced we haven't one decent forward.
I do appreciate all the hard work done by the players but see what I've seen in the last year doesn't leave me with much optimism.
Ask yourself a question is 5 points in 70 minutes acceptable?
The answer is NO !!!!!!
The worst Cavan team have scored more.
Can't remember when we've been that poor.
Sense of frustration is unreal !!!!!

Tell us how you really feel desagov!

Seriously though I understand where you're coming from. I'll be honest, I too got caught up in the whole "future is blue thing". But I certainly do not blame the players. They are committed as ever, you can see on the field they are making an effort, and thats all the fans want to see, but the hindrance is that system which has killed any attacking instinct or flair in the team. We have one creative player i.e Mackey, and when he's not playing we're goosed. We have no half forward line. Its insane stuff. And the fact that we persisted with it after the Armagh game is baffling. Which is why I believe a change in management is needed.

i too am a long time cavan supporter not just as long as you 39 years all i am saying is it was a terrible day yes

but we were missing 6 or 7 players
the juniors didnt want to play thats common knowledge
feel for tinnelly who did come on
some of those who did play didnt play to their ability
i do think the system needs to change
i also think we have some very talented players who this system does not suit
i really dont blame the players for sat i blame the system
my hope is that this system will change now over the winter
i just felt in my opinion that your comment was harsh on the team who were doing what they were told to do
have met a couple of the lads since and they are devastated
over all the system needs to change

You can talk about systems all you like but where do you go when lads are not able to kick the ball over the bar from 30 yards?

I'm sure they're well able to slasher, just reluctant to do so out of fear of missing. We'll never improve if risk taking is not encouraged in front of goal. How else are you supposed to score? It's an absolutely daft approach.

So if they are afraid to shoot what happened against Derry last year when we scored 1-22 or against Roscommon in the league final?

No I'm just a realist. Some realism is needed on this forum. People are quick to forget where we were when Terry HYland took over. This is only his second full season in the job and he has delivered our first All Ireland quarter final and Division 2 football.

I can see why people are complaining so much....

Tomsmith here again

It is now two weeks since our disaster against Roscommon and as I said when 48 hours passed we do not have one poster who outlined a different team that Mr Hyland should have put our.
That says it all that no one has come up with abetter team or risen to my challenge to name a different team..
Would it be that the best available team was put out??
Would it be that we should have a County Selector us spectators??
Would it be that we need Divisional teams to unearth talent??
Do we need talent spotters like before ???

Tomsmith,

It's nothing to do with the team.
It's the system that's wrong and the players are not seemingly buying into it.
