All Ireland Fleadh …To visit the lovely Co Clare and the town of Ennis is a joy at any time of year but when Fleadh Ceoil na hEireann just happens to be on for a whole week there really is no better place to be . And so it was from the 14th to the 21st of August as Ennis hosted Ireland,s premier Traditional Irish Music festival with a feast of music , song and dance for the huge volumes of people to enjoy. The weather was good, and the hospitality excellent with the locals being very courteous and friendly. Many locals travelled to Ennis either for a number of days or the whole week but the general concensus was the Fleadh was a great success and will once again be held in Ennis in 2017. Well done to local storyteller Eamon Maguire who performed on the Gig Rig on Saturday evening. This was a great honour for Eamon to perform in front of thousands of people and his hilarious renditions of 'The Driving Test' and 'Looking For A Woman' really went down a treat with the throngs of people. Also to say thank you to Ann Kelly daughter of Tommy Spud and Mary Ellen Donohoe Cloncose Cornafean for her Hospitality to all the locals who called to her public house on Market Sq in Ennis during what was a very busy time for their business.

Charity Concert  in aid of Dromcoghill Church takes place this Friday night 2nd September in Cornafean Sports Hall at 8 p.m.  A great nights entertainment is promised with a host of local artists performing.

Bruce Ramble 5km  . A big thank you to everyone who made the Bruce Ramble a fantastic success on Friday evening raising €2,800 for the Holy Family School in Cootehill. Thanks to everyone who walked and donated and to all those who helped out in any way. A special word of thanks to Cullys Bakery and Melting Moments for supplying some of the delicious goodies and to Art for being so accommodating. A great evening was had by all.

CLUB NOTES

Junior Championship Round 4
Cornafean 2-13  Kildallen 1-10
Cornafean are through to the semi final of the Junior Championship after coming through a stiff test against Kildallen which was played in Redhills on Sunday.  Barry Doyle scored 1-6 for the Reds and a late goal from sub Conor Sheridan made sure of the reds place in the last four.  No doubt the team and management will not be over happy with the performance on the day but the result is what mattered and the squad now have two weeks to prepare for a tough semi-final asisgnment against Shannon Gaels.

Hard luck to the Minor lads who were defeated by Annalee Gaels on Tuesday evening last in Cornafean.   The good news for the team is they will be availing of the back door system and will play again the competitionon Tuesday week.

Minor Ladies - had a better time of it during the week with two excellent victories over Kingscourt and Killinkere respectively in the Championship.  They now progress to the semi final which will be played in the coming weeks.
