Cavan Coaching & Games will be continuing to offer their support and assistance to clubs for the 2016 season through the Club Coaching Development Program. There was a session scheduled for Killygarry on last Saturday in Killygarry but it was postponed because there is Confirmation in Killygarry on the same day. This session will be rescheduled for a later date. The next session is scheduled for 14th May in Crosskeys.

Cúl Camp Coaching posts for 2016 Summer camps

Dermot McCabe, Games Development Manager, Cavan County Board, has sent out an application form to clubs for Cúl Camp coaching positions during the 2016 summer camps. These positions might be particularly suitable for students looking for work during the summer holidays. Please note that only applications made using this application form will be accepted and the closing date for applications is5PM this Friday April 29th. A copy of the form has been emailed to all our members but if you want one and didn't get one, contact Noel McHugh at 0876387819 or email him at [email protected].

Senior Players Table Quiz

The Senior Players organised a very successful table quiz last Friday night in the Meadow View. There was a great turnout. We thank all the players and supporters. A big thanks also to Paddy Sheanon for setting the questions, doing quizmaster and entertaining everyone as he always does. We also thank all the businesses and individuals who donated spot prizes for the event

Best wishes

We wish club stalwart Dessie Agnew a full and speedy recovery after a serious operation recently. Dessie's recovering in the Mater at the moment. He was a key member of our first team in 1966 which is of particular significance in this our Jubilee year.

All-Ireland Féile 2016

The Club has the distinction of sending both a boys and a girls team to this year's Féile. Needless to say, there will be considerable costs so keep an eye out and support the fundraising efforts which we are currently planning - score predictions, sponsored walk, special lotto draw and others.

Cavan Commemorates 1916 too

There were very entertaining events throughout town all day last Saturday. There was a parade as well and our own members and players both boys and girls did us proud in it - we were one of the biggest group turnouts. Thanks to everyone for representing the Club so well. Other participants were the Defence Forces, UN Veterans, Multicultural Communities, High Nellie Society, etc. It was a fitting way to commemorate 1916.

Lá na gClub on 8th May

The Club will be organising events at our grounds to mark Lá na gClub next Sunday 8th May. They will include some events to mark our 50th Jubilee celebrations. There'll be something for all ages. We will be organising underage blitzes for boys and girls and we will also have a barbeque for all our visitors. We want all our senior and juvenile players there for the occasion. There will be other. Everything kicks off at the Athletic Grounds at 2PM.

Club Merchandise

Eamon Condon's Sportshop on Main Street is now stocking our Club merchandise. You can try on all sizes of jerseys, jackets, tops, etc. and Eamon will be able to supply them in the Club colours and crest. Our merchandise is also on display in Crubany school and we are very thankful to Antonia Hayes, Principal for facilitating the Club

Youth to Work Y2W

The GAA wants to help drive awareness of emerging job opportunities in tech and related sectors in the greater Cavan region. Y2W are hosting a Tech Careers Expo - an informative and enjoyable event which will offer advice and hands-on support in securing employment locally. The final Y2W Tech Careers Expo event will take place at 7.00PM in Slieve Russell Hotel (2nd May). Register at [email protected] - for more details on this initiative see the post about it on our Facebook page.

Website

We expect the new website to be up and running in the next week or so. We would like to again sincerely thank John Lyng for all the work he put into setting up the last site and maintaining it over the years. John and the site have served us well during that time. We are delighted that Neil Doherty and Mels Signs have come on board as main sponsors of the new site.

Old photos and memorabilia

We want to borrow old photos and memorabilia (old jerseys, etc.) to use in the Club's jubilee book and to put on display at various events during the year. If you have any, please contact Kevin Reilly on 0872120111 or [email protected]. All items borrowed will be returned to the owners.

Club Men Adult Teams

The seniors had no game last weekend but we have important ACFL fixtures coming up - next Friday at home to Drumgoon and the following week away to Killashandra. Our Reserve League team played Ramor last Saturday. They played really well and were very unlucky to lose to a last minute point. They are away to Castlerahan next Sunday. The minors' fixture due to be played against Laragh next weekend has been postponed to a later date. Their next fixture is away to Annalee Gaels in a week's time.

Club Boys Juvenile Teams

The U16s faced the long trek to West Cavan to play Dernacrieve Gaels last week and didn't travel so well - we were well beaten in the fixture. The U14s started their 2016 League campaign last week. We are fielding two teams this year - Div 1 and Div 4. Our Div 4 team played Kildallan in Ballyconnell on Wed and gave a good account of themselves even though they lost. Our Div 1 team also suffered a narrow defeat to our familiar rivals Butlersbridge on Thursday night. There are no U14 games this week. The U12s played and won their postponed fixture away to Cuchulainns last week. They play Knockbride this week

Club Girls Juvenile Teams

The U16 lost narrowly to Lavey over a week ago. They built on that performance to register a great win against Ballyhaise in a gutsy fightback. They play Cornafean this week. The U14s kept their winning streak going with another victory at home against Castlerahan/Denn last week. They play Templeport this week. The U12s were awarded the points for the Cavan Gaels fixture last week.

County Men Adult Teams

Hard luck to Martin and the Seniors next Sunday in the Allianz league final. It was a great campaign - the future is still Blue! Good luck to Darragh Kennedy and Conor Smith in their preparations for the Ulster Minor Championship in the coming months.

County Ladies Adult Teams

The Seniors had to face Donegal for the second time in as many weeks in the Div 2 semi-final. Unfortunately, they came out on the losing end again. Hard luck to them all, especially Caitríona, Elaine, Courtney, Rachel. The Minors (including our own Geraldine and Ellie) play Antrim away next Saturday. We wish them the best of luck.

County Ladies Juvenile Teams

The Cavan U16 Ladies Development Squad are at home to Armagh next weekend. Good luck to our own Eimear Kennedy and the squad. Best of luck also to our girls on the County U14 panel - Aisling Walls, Eimear Cahill, Ali Cahill, Dearbhla Lynch and Amy Galligan. They are away to Antrim next Saturday.

St. Pats College Football

Best of luck to St Pats in the Brock Cup final against St. Pats Dungannon this Thursday. Our lads - Shane Cosgrave, Eoin Kelly and Oisín Brady are in the panel.
