Under 14 Division One Camogie Champions

November 16, 2015

Crosserlough were crowned Under 14 Division One Champions after a trilling game with near neighbours Denn which was played in Ballyhaise.  The game was played in perfect conditions and both teams gave a fine display of skill throughout.  Denn opened the scoring with a point from Casey Maher.  Both teams were evenly matched and the game was played at great pace with both teams making numerous attacks.  Denn added a further point but Crosserlough responded well and kept putting the pressure on the Denn Defence who were holding strong.
Darcey Beck and Katelyn McGonnell worked extremely hard in the middle of the field throughout the game covering a lot of ground and sending in some good ball into the forward line. Karen Harten, Hannah Boylan, Clodagh McGivney and Ava Fanin worked tirelessly up front putting pressure on the Denn Defence and their hard work was rewarded when Ellie Briody initiated an attack from the Crosserlough backline sending in a great delivery where Hannah Boylan made no mistake in putting in the back of the net.  The Crosserlough defence of Maureen Reilly, Ellie Briody, Sarah Finnegan and Lorna O'Reilly worked very hard throughout the game and were not going to surrender any easy scores.  Ciara Boylan kept her backline in order and cleared her goal line well. Crosserlough registered a further point through Katelyn McGonnell while Denn also added a further point through Sarah Curran leaving the half time score 1-1 to 0-3 in favour of Crosserlough.
The second half got under way and both teams fought very hard all over the field.  Crosserlough registered a further point from a well taken free by Ciara Boylan who had started the second half outfield while Sarah Finnegan went into goals.  Crosserlough were leading by two points at this stage and Denn were in search of a goal but Crosserloughs' defence were on their game and cleared some great ball.  Sarah Finnegan in goal made some great saves and cleared her lines well and denied Denn of any goal chances.  Tara Nash was introduced into the forward line in place of Clodagh McGivney and worked hard along with Ciara Boylan creating a few goal chances.  Hannah Boylan added a further point for Crosserlough which left the final score 1-3 to 0-3 in favour of Crosserlough.   This was an excellent game of camogie to watch and the level of skill at this age was very impressive.  Both teams should be very proud of their performance and Crosserlough especially to have come away with the win.  Peter Brady presented the Cup to the Crosserlough Captain Hannah Boylan and Katelyn McGonnell was deservedly presented with the Player of the Mach Award.
