Lynch c/o Anne Fortune, Gerry O Keeffe c/o George Crowe's, Mary Johnston c/o Bingo, Martin Myles c/o Bingo, Phildie Murray.  The draw for next week's jackpot of €2,700 will be held on Sunday next 30 August in the Slieve Rossa. Thanks to all those who buy our lotto and to those who facilitate the draw in any way.

Senior Championship

Well done to our seniors who have qualified for the championship quarter-final by defeating Lacken in Kingspan Bréifne Park on Saturday evening last. This was a well-contested game for most of the first half until a Martin Dunne goal, just before the interval, gave the Gaels some momentum. We took the initiative in the second half by largely dominating matters. Lacken had their moments in the second half but the Gaels withstood the danger.  Comhghairdeas.

Community Games All-Ireland Silver Medal Winners

Well done to the St Patrick's Area Community Games under-10 gaelic football team who won the silver medals in the All-Ireland finals in Athlone last week-end. Congratulations to all the players and the management on this great achievement and in particular to the Cavan Gaels players who were involved- Ben Tully, Josh Dunne, Cormac Crotty, Josh McDwyer and Louis Maguire. In a round robin format they defeated Wolfe Tones from Clare and St Conleth's from Newbridge and they were unlucky to be beaten by Ballinamore in extra-time.

Minor Championship

Our minors had an away game against Castlerahan in the first round of the championship on Tuesday last. Matters were close during the game but the Gaels had a fertile spell in the second half when they raced into a five point lead and seemed to be heading for a welcome victory. Castlerahan admirably reduced the lead to three points with injury time almost finished. Our final kickout was won and the ball was sent to the net to give the home side an unexpected victory. The replay takes place this Tuesday 25 August at 7pm in Terry Coyle Park. Best of luck to players and management.

Under-12

Well done to our under-12s who have shown a welcome improvement in recent games. A word of appreciation to the team management who have worked hard with this group and have got a positive response.

Summer Camp

Cavan Gaels held a very successful Summer GAA Camp for boys and girls in Terry Coyle Park on Monday and Tuesday last in very welcome balmy weather. At this camp the participants, from 4-12, sampled gaelic football, camogie and rounders in a safe and fun-filled environment and a happy family atmosphere. Well done and thank you to the gaelic football coaches- John Fortune, Barry Fortune, Mícheál Lyng, Cian Donohoe, Liam Cooke, Fearghal Blessing, Evaan Fortune, Rebecca Tully and Hanna McHugh. Thanks to our camogie coaches- Mary Keniry, Karen Boyle, Michelle Tarpey and Nola O Hanlon and our rounders coach- Dympna Reilly. A special thanks to the camp organisers- Mark Leddy, John McHugh, Mary McCarthy, Anne Fortune, Barbara Fortune and Karen Galligan. This was the second year of our camp. It is hoped to expand it in the years ahead and make it a must on our annual events' calendar.

John Fee Memorial Club Day

Please note that the annual John Fee club day will take place on Saturday 26 September in Terry Coyle Park. This day has been a long term fixture in the Cavan Gaels' calendar and is always a fitting tribute to the memory of a renowned and indefatigable Cavan Gaels clubman. It's a day for young and old alike, full of fun and games and food. Among the many activities, there will be camogie, Gaelic football for boys and girls and rounders. So come along!

Congratulations to Cavan Referees

Congratulations also to another Cavan referee, Joe McQuillan, who on Sunday next takes charge of the second All-Ireland senior semi-final between Dublin and Mayo.

Cavan GAA Club Player's Book on Anxiety/Health and Well Being

Well done to twenty year old Castlerahan player Jamie McGrath who recently published a book detailing his experience of the anxiety in his life. He is admirably open about his mental health. "My mental health can take different blows from time to time in different scenarios and events". He wants to reassure young people especially that it's ok to feel anxious. He tells us he suffers from a general anxiety disorder. In his book as well as "diving into his own story", he provides the reader
with tips and advice which he has learned along the way. Importantly, Jamie reminds us that if we have anxiety we are not alone in this regard. Jamie's book costs €10. A donation from the sale of each book goes to SOSAD.
If you are interested in this topic remember that Brian Galligan, J.J. Reilly, Anne Fortune and Nicola Fortune are the club contacts in relation to health and wellbeing matters. Information on this important area can be accessed at aware.ie and yourmentalhealth.ie The number for the Samaritans is 1850 60 90 90. Remember it's ok to say you're not ok. It's good to talk. A club should promote positive physical and mental health. Mind your HEAD as well as your BODY.

First Aid/CPR

Club members and especially coaches are asked to note that a First Aid course, including a module on CPR, will be organised in Terry Coyle Park in the very near future. With so much emphasis nowadays on the importance of being able to administer CPR, this course is very timely. If you wish to do this course, please contact Mark Leddy on 087-8596498.

Club Volunteers in action!!

A sincere thank you to all our club volunteers- current players, executive members, some club coaching staff and other members- who all are putting their painting skills at the disposal of the club in order to expedite the development of the inside of our new complex. This is a very welcome development. Hopefully members with other necessary skill sets will follow the example of the painters and will volunteer their services if called upon in the certain knowledge that in doing so they are making an invaluable contribution to the development of the complex and to their club. Thanks to Niall O Riordan, Cavan Gaels Development Officer, who is coordinating all the club voluntary effort. Our new shop and turnstiles are already in operation. Thanks to all those who have already supported our development through becoming Friends of Cavan Gaels. The money from this source along with our Sports' Capital Grant has enabled us to proceed with the building. We urge others who have not joined so far to consider signing up in the knowledge that, by so doing, they will be making a significant contribution, not only to the Terry Coyle Park development, but to the long term development of our young boys and girls.
