IFC: Cootehill and Ballyhaise advance to the final

There were two Intermediate Football Championship semi finals down for decision today at Breffni Park.

In the opening game Cootehill saw off a strong Killinkere challenge to advance to the decider on a 1-13 to 0-12 scoreline. The winners raced in to a 1-4 to 0-0 lead after 15 minutes. Steve O'Connor got the goal. Cootehill were reduced to 14 men just before the break when Ryan Reilly was redcarded. The winners led 1-7 to 0-5 at the break. With 20 minutes gone in the second half Killinkere had the lead down to 1-12 to 0-12 but John Carney sent over the insurance point and Cootehill advance to the final.

Up next was Ballyhaise and Shercock. Ballyhaise led 0-5 to 0-4 at the break but were stunned by a goal from John McEnroe early in the second half. Kevin Tierney levelled matters after ten minutes at 0-8 to 1-5. Further points by the impressive Tierney, Martin Conaty and Conor Lyons put the winners in the driving seat. Final score Ballyhaise 0-13 Shercock 1-7.
