Bailieborough Shamrocks Club Notes

July 22, 2014
Senior Team
The senior team entertained Killeshandra in this postponed ACFL fixture on Saturday evening last. This was an important game for the home side in their battle to avoid relegation and they were pitted against a team who have been in good form in the league and who arrived with a strong line up. Bailieborough were unlucky to concede an early goal which gave the visitors confidence however they rallied and took the game to their opponents for the remainder of the half. A series of attacks yielded 4 points from frees and open play to leave the score at 4 points to 1- 3. Bailieborough then produced a goal from a well worked move which was finished to the net by Aidan Reilly and went on to lead at half time by 1 - 5 to 1- 3. In the second half the Shamrocks opened well and stretched their lead in the first 10 minutes and at this stage they looked like the better team. However Killeshandra crowded the midfield and succeeded in cutting off the supply of ball to the Bailieborough forwards. The game became scrappy in nature and developed into a physical encounter. This favoured the stronger away team who went on to chisel out 5 unanswered points to take the spoils on a scoreline of 1- 8 to 1-6. Bailieborough were very disappointed to lose this game as the players left everything on the field and their efforts deserved more. They must now regroup and concentrate on the forthcoming Intermediate championship clash which will be played on the Bank Holiday weekend.
The Reserve Championship fixture against Cuchulainns will be played on August 9th. Training for the full panel of Seniors, Juniors and Minors on Tuesday and Friday at 7.45
Under 16s
Following the postponement of their game with Cornafean last Thursday night the under 16s returned to action this week with a home game against Ballyhaise. They put in a good performance to win by 4-9 to 3-6 a result which gives them hope of qualifying for the semi final stage of the competition. They are due to play Cornafean in a refixed game this week.

The Under 12 squad are currently involved in the Summer League where they have been making good progress and have a number of wins to their credit.
