Gaelic4Girls

Cavan Gaels is the only Cavan club which has been chosen to take part in the Gaelic4Girls programme which was recently unveiled and which features clubs from all over the country. This admirable initiative is aimed at those girls who are new to gaelic football. We will host a Gaelic4Girls coaching programme over six weeks. For the first weeks the girls will be taught the basics of the game and during the final weeks the participating girls will be helped to integrate with the club and existing club players.
The first coaching session for Gaelic4girls will take place on Saturday 3 April in Terry Coyle Park between 10 and 11am. Registration starts at 9.30am. Best of luck to all who are involved in this programme. Spread the word!!

County Under-21
Well done to Paul Graham and Barry Fortune who featured prominently in Cavan's memorable late victory over Donegal in the Ulster under-21 final in Armagh on Wednesday evening last. Vinny Coyle and Andy Graham were also on the panel. Best of luck to the Cavan under-21s who meet Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final in O Moore Park, Portlaoise on Saturday next 19 April at 4.45pm. This game will be preceded by the Cork-Roscommon semi-final at 3pm.

County Senior
Best of luck to all the Cavan Gaels players-Martin Dunne, Mickey Lyng, Niall Murray, Robert Maloney-Derham, Paul O Connor and Niall Smith- who are on the Cavan senior panel and are preparing for the division three league final against Roscommon in Croke Park on Saturday 26 April.

Wedding Bells
Congratulations to Cavan Gaels footballer Paul O Donnell who married Elaine Scanlan in St John the Baptist Church, Affane, Cappoquin, Co. Waterford on Saturday last. All in Cavan Gaels club wish Paul and Elaine every happiness. We also thank Paul for his significant contribution to our club both on and off the field.

Confirmation
Congratulations to all our players who received the sacrament of Confirmation in Cavan Cathedral last weekend.

Rounders
Thanks to all those who took part in a Rounders' blitz recently. Four coaches from the Rounders Association coached 240 pupils from St Felim's NS, St Clare's NS, Gaelscoil Bhréifne and Farnham NS. Present at the coaching were John McHugh, Cavan Gaels Inclusion Officer, Michael Mooney, Chairman, Cavan Gaels, Anne Fortune, Cavan Gaels Children's Officer and J.J. Reilly, Cavan Gaels Schools' Liaison Officer. Thanks to the principals and teachers of the four national schools for their encouragement and cooperation. It is hoped to expand this initiative to other schools and groups in the area.

Camogie Under-Age Launch
Our under-age camogie launch took place in St Clare's National School on Sunday last. A DJ provided the music. There was also face painting and numerous treats for the children. Well done to all concerned.

Golf Classic
Please take note that the annual Cavan Gaels Golf Classic will take place this year on Friday 11 July in County Cavan Golf Club. Please keep that date free in your diary
and organise your team in good time. For further information on this club fundraiser contact J.J. Reilly on 086-1005303.

Merchandise
A reminder that a wide range of Cavan Gaels merchandise can be purchased at very competitive prices from our merchandising officer, Caroline Forde (086-3722322).

Strictly Come Dancing
Cavan Gaels GAA club presented Strictly Come Dancing in the Hotel Kilmore recently. Eighteen couples entertained the huge crowd- Susan Mulligan/ Tommy Greenan, Patricia O Riordan/ Mick Flynn, Chris Coyne/ Garrett Fortune, Catherina Collins/ Brian Galligan, Philomena Smith/ Jimmy Galligan, Andrea McNamara/ Pauric Rudden, Miriam Sheridan/ Benny Sheridan, Rebecca Neligan/ Michael Meehan, Anne Gildea/ Niall McIntyre, Sophie Graham/ Pauric Sexton, Susan Brady/ Peter Sheridan, Serena McGovern/ Rory Hayden, Catherina Fitzpatrick/ Conor Martin, Anna Coyle/ Darren Smith, Orlaith Prior/ Gerry McPhillips, Dearbhall McDonnell/ John Hurt, Aileen Fitzpatrick/ Joey McDonald, Eileen Walsh/ Tommy McClorey. After the audience votes and the adjudicators' votes, five couples were selected to dance off for the winners' accolade, Anne Gildea/Niall McIntyre, Sophie Graham/Pauric"Spud" Sexton/, Orlaith Prior/Gerry McPhillips, Aileen Fitzpatrick/Joey McDonald, Eileen Walsh/Tommy McClorey. The standard of dancing displayed by the five couples was commendably high and must have given the adjudicators much food for thought. It was Sophie Graham and Pauric Sexton who emerged with the spoils after a very co-ordinated dance. Thanks to all the above dancers for agreeing to take part. The dancing talent on view reflected the many hours of practice. Well done to all those who have put so much work into the fundraiser over a long period of time to make it such a success. A word of sincere thanks also to all who attended in such numbers and to those who bought tickets but were not in a position to be there. This event was also a fundraiser for two very deserving causes- Sosad and Palliative Care, Cavan. The able MCs for the night were Michael Mooney, Chairman, Cavan Gaels and the versatile Paul Cox.

GAA Presidency
Congratulations to Aogán Ó Fearghail on being elected as Uachtarán Tofa Cumann Lúthcleas Gael at the GAA Congress recently. He will be the first Cavan man to hold the prestigious position of Uachtarán- the seventh from Ulster- and he will be the 38th President of the GAA. We in Cumann Gael an Chabháin wish Aogán all the best during his term. No doubt Aogán, who has an impressive pedigree in the GAA, will bring his many distinctive talents to this position. The last GAA President from Ulster was Sean McCague whose term finished in 2003. Comhgairdeas, Aogán. Ta súil again go luífidh Aogán isteach ar an obair mar Uachtarán Tofa le tréan-díograis.

Mouthguards
A reminder to all our players that mouth guards are compulsory at all levels from 1 January 2014. Ná déan dearmad.
