Round towers beat Tullamore last night. 4 sent off. Winners of Eire Og V Ratoath play em in the final. Round Towers beat a strong Celbridge (last years leinster minor winners) in the Kildare county final. They are the team to beat methinks.

And what does 'another' mean? We got to the final last year and are in the semis this year...

Whilst i have great time for this tournament and the standard of fball it produces, it is only that, a tournament organised by eire og themselves. They will always have home advantage and with lads away and travelling to games, it will give them an advantage. Fairplay to eire og to organise it though. Whether its a true reflection of the best club team at this level, i dunno. Be different if it on a neutral ground in summer conditions..

I know the Dub champions are not in it this year as their championship is running late with them winning the All Ireland. However the standard is still very high. Celbridge won it last year with a serious team. No Carlow team has ever won it. I reckon this Eire Og minor team has a good shout of winning it. Ratoath from Meath and Round Towers the Kildare champions stand between them and victory. In fairness there was not a team in this county that could ever keep it kicked out to this particular Eire Og team. Thats why its good for them to see what level they are at compared to other counties. Team manager Willie Quinlan was always very forward thinking with this team throughout the years bringing them outside the county to play tournaments and games throughout the years. They competed in Austin Stacks tournament in Tralee, the international feile in Birmingham and numerous other tournaments through the years. They always gave a good account of themselves and have no inferiority complex when it comes to clubs outside the county. Its a very well run tournament that raises the bar for the Carlow champions every year.

Dont get me wrong, it is a good tournament but thats all. I ve seen it effecting schools games where students are told not to play with schools by management due to this. This i have a huge problem with.

Old Burrin. Do you not realise that its the Carlow champions that play in it. This year that happens to be Eire Og but obviously that is not the case every year. It could be your club playing in it if they win the Carlow championship ,

eire og must be the only club in ireland never to win their own tournament

oldburrin - so you think we're underachieving to have won out carlow and been beaten finalists in this twice and be in the semis again this year? Sounds like a lot of biitterness and begrudgement to me...

24 to 12 instead of 27 to 10 the last time. A few more clubs supported the Cocks but nowhere near enough to change the result.

It means that they can in theory win the senior championship or the Intermediate. If they want to win senior they must first win their group of 4 in Tier 2 and then beat the bottom team from one of 2 groups in tier 1 and proceed to the quarter finals of senior championship. The same format applies between tier 2 and tier 3 to determine the intermediate and junior winners.
