Fitzgibbon delay likely as Mary I confirm DRA appeal

Mary Immaculate College officials have confirmed that they are to take their Fitzgibbon Cup appeal to the GAA's Disputes Resolutions Authority.

The Limerick Leader is reporting that the Eamonn Cregan managed college side are not happy with the outcome of the GAA's Central Appeals Committee's investigation into the eligibility of an IT Carlow player last week and they will submit an appeal to the DRA.

That means tomorrow's quarter-finals - Limerick IT v IT Carlow and Waterford IT v Dublin IT - will most likely be postponed until the DRA hearing takes place.

The latest development also casts a big doubt over the build-up to Fitzgibbon Cup finals weekend which is to be hosted by LIT this coming weekend.

UL and Cork IT have already booked their places at the finals where they await the winners of the two outstanding quarter-finals.

DJ Carey's IT Carlow had beaten Cregan's Mary Immaculate by nine points to secure a quarter-final spot but an appeal by the Limerick college against the eligibility of part-time business student James Gannon was upheld by the Comhairle Ardoideachais Hearings committee.

Mary I were subsequently given IT Carlow's place in the last eight against DIT but that decision was overturned by the Central Appeals Committee.
