Rathvilly captain Brendan Murphy stated that this year's county SFC final win was five years in the making.

A 2-09 to 1-10 win over Old Leighlin was Rathvilly's first title in five years having lost two county deciders since then.

Murphy, who carried an injury into the match and was forced off just after half time, admitted to the Carlow Nationalist that it was a 'sweet' victory.

"They are all sweet but this one was five years in the making," stressed Murphy. Losing two finals since then hurt but this one is special.

"That is the culture we have in Rathvilly and the club. Despite losing those two finals, we do now know how to win as well."
