Eire Og manager Pat Roe is eager for the championship to start.

The Laois native does not have long to wait as the town team open their campaign on Friday night with a clash against defending champions Eire Og.

It is a tough opener for Eire Og and their new manager, but he admitted to the Carlow Nationalist that they will know where they are at after this game.

"Old Leighlin are a quality side who have won three out of the last four championships. I admire the team and they way they play. They are very united. They have great team spirit and play for one another," said Roe.

He added: "They are the champions. It will show us where we are but it is only a first round, a first step on the road."
