Preview: All-Ireland SFC qualifier: Carlow v Waterford

June 28, 2014

Carlow and Waterford will be hoping to make up for their provincial defeats this Saturday.
Carlow football is at its lowest ebb following the 28-point hammering Anthony Rainbow's charges suffered at the hands of Meath.

During the post-mortem that followed, players not making themselves available to represent the county and a lack of co-operation from clubs were amongst the excuses put forward.

County Board chairman Michael Meaney was forced to publicly defend himself this week against accusations of not having the county's best interests at heart.

Against that backdrop, they return to the scene of the crime this Saturday to play host to Waterford in Round 1B of the qualifiers.

Can the Benny Kavanagh captained side restore some pride to the jersey against a team that exited the Munster SFC following a 0-12 to 3-11 replay defeat against Clare?

Waterford are favourites having prevailed on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-9 when the two sides met in round 7 of Division 4 in early April at Dungarvan.

Verdict - Waterford.

Waterford team: tba.

Match details: Saturday, Dr Cullen Park, 2pm, extra-time playable.

Referee: Cormac Reilly (Meath).

Odds: Carlow 5/2, Draw 15/2, Waterford 2/5.
