Disappointment was immense for MLR

Mount Leinster Rangers selector John Coleman admitted that the players were devastated following their All-Ireland club SHC final defeat to Portumna.

The Carlow and Leinster champions could be forgiven for just being delighted to get to the Croke Park showcase on St Patrick's Day, but Coleman stressed to the Carlow Nationalist that was not the case as they wanted to win the match.

"We came to win. Players are very disappointed. I think ultimately we didn't perform well enough to win the match. Portumna are a good team but at times, we hurled well enough but we didn't put scores on the board," said Coleman.

"These things happen. They seemed to be able to find scores easier than we did. We do realise it was a great year and we are very proud of our achievements. That doesn't take from the fact that we wanted to go the whole way."
