Dempsey nominated for Carlow post

Luke Dempsey has been nominated by the Carlow County Board executive to succeed Paul Bealin as the county's next football manager. Dempsey, who had managed the Barrowsiders in 2004, was heavily linked with the currently vacant Meath position but recently confirmed that he had withdrawn form the race to replace Colm Coyle. Carlow player John Hayden last week called on the County Board to appoint a long-term manager that would usher the county out of the slump its in. In his past stint with Carlow, Dempsey led the Barrowsiders to a famous championship win over Longford.
