Clare's Niamh O'Dea has expressed her disgust at the decision to fix an important camogie championship match involving her club Kilmaley just seven days before the All-Ireland intermediate ladies football final.

O'Dea and fellow Kilmaley dual players Emma O'Driscoll and Ailish Considine have vowed not to play in Sunday's camogie fixture against Clooney-Quin as they don't want to risk picking up an injury ahead of Sunday week's football showdown with Kildare.

"We are raging," she told the Clare Champion.

"They are putting us in a very difficult situation. The last thing you want on your mind going into an All-Ireland final is this hassle. If it was a men's county team, there wouldn't be any trouble at all. It is an absolute disgrace women are not given the same respect. It is an embarrassment."

O'Dea added: "Everyone's dream is to play in Croke Park. We're not going to risk picking up an injury. Our club is fully behind us. They can't fathom why this is happening."

The Clare camogie county board said Clooney-Quin offered to play the camogie last Monday, but Kilmaley were not in a position to accept this as their dual stars would still not have been permitted to play by Clare ladies football manager Neil Moynihan.
