Hurling wins for Westmeath and Donegal

August 17, 2008
Westmeath qualified for the All-Ireland minor 'B' hurling final on Saturday, while Donegal registered a big win over London in the Ulster under 21 hurling shield final. Decisively beaten by Meath in the Leinster minor championship back in the spring, Westmeath avenged that loss with a 0-13 to 0-8 victory in a game which had to be moved from Tullamore to Woodmount, Co. Roscommon because of the poor weather conditions. Brian O'Meara top-scored for the Lake County with 0-5 from frees, while Castlepollard's Stephen Bardon chipped in with 0-4 from play. Meanwhile, over in Ruislip, Donegal powered to a 6-21 to 1-2 triumph over a weak London side to claim provincial honours.
