Mayo secured an All-Ireland minor football semi-final date with Kerry following a six-point extra-time victory over Monaghan. Mayo....1-12 Monaghan.0-9 The beaten Ulster finalists came within a whisker of victory in normal time, but lost their way in the additional period as a strong-finishing Mayo prevailed. The Connacht champions led by 0-3 to 0-1 at the end of a low-scoring first half with Aidan O'Shea, David Drake and Alex Corduff on the mark. Kieran Hughes, who was Monaghan's only scorer in that opening half, led a strong second half recovery from the Farney County and they looked like progressing to the last-four until Cathal Freeman hit a late equalizer for Mayo to send the tie to extra-time. Aidan Walsh and Freeman helped the Westerners to a 0-9 to 0-7 advantage at the end of the first period of added time, and a late goal from Daniel O'Hara sealed the victory.
