Ring Cup: Late Rogers' goal sends Carlow into final

July 28, 2008
Carlow 1-16 Mayo 0-17 A fortuitous goal from Carlow's Jack Rogers decided the outcome of this game as the Barrowsiders pipped Mayo by two points with the only goal of the game two minutes into injury time at Castlebar. Mayo had taken in a four point-lead at the interval at 0-10 to 0-6 but Carlow cut down the difference to one with three points in as many minutes after the restart. The Westerners hit back to force a 0-16 to 0-11 lead heading towards the final quarter but Carlow kept pucking over the points that left them within just a score of leading the game. Mayo net-minder Michael Walsh was then forced to make a brilliant save off Craig Doyle before a long ball into the square from Rodgers two minutes into injury-time flew past him and with it Mayo's chance of an final meeting with Westmeath at Croke Park was gone.
