O'Sullivan rules out return of dual stars
July 23, 2008
Limerick manager Mickey Ned O'Sullivan has no plans to bring any of the county's dual players back into the football fold this year.
Stephen Lucey, Conor Fitzgerald, Mike O'Brien and Mark O'Riordan have concentrated on hurling for the past few years, but while insisting that they are welcome to rejoin the football panel, O'Sullivan said they would have to wait until next year as he has a very settled squad at the moment.
While the Limerick hurlers exited the championship a fortnight ago, the footballers are still going strong and after thrashing Meath at the weekend, they will quietly fancy their chances of maintaining their winning run against Kildare at the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday.
O'Sullivan said: "If players want to play hurling, that's their prerogative but I would have loved if they played football because they would have added to our set-up.
"That's the way it goes and you have to work with the resources you have. We have a panel picked for the championship and that's the way it's going to stay.
"If the dual players came back training now, it would be unfair on the lads that have been there all along. I have to be fair and honest."
