Bealin puzzled by squad rejections
July 17, 2008
Carlow boss Paul Bealin is set to be without six of his starting players for this Saturday's Tommy Murphy Cup clash with Antrim.
Paul Reid and Bryan Carberry will both miss out on the Casement Park encounter through injury, as will John Hayden, who is recovering from a recent knee operation.
Apart from injuries to the squad, other players who took part in the Barrowsiders Leinster SFC campaign aren't able to give their commitment in the Tommy Murphy Cup; Simon Rea is only concentrating on club football after overcoming a recent injury, Brian Farrell is focussing on building a house and John Murphy is gone to American for the rest of the summer.
Some of the departures from the squad have hindered Bealin's side's chances for the trip to Belfast to say the least and the former Dublin county senior is bemused by the fact that he hasn't been able to attract players into the squad.
"It's been a difficult year to be honest. The players who came in were fantastic but I've asked some players to come in and there's been no interest.
"I've never been involved in a club or county where players didn't want to come in. Excuses were given that maybe they'd come in next year but anywhere else they would have been beating down the doors."
