Ulster U21 HC: McGoldrick brace sinks Armagh

July 17, 2008
Armagh 0-11 Derry 3-15 Derry's forward pairing of Paddy McCloskey and Sean Leo McGoldrick combined for 3-7 to sink Armagh on Wednesday evening in this Ulster Under 21 Championship encounter at Middletown. Armagh got off the mark early with a point from Cathal Carville but Derry would make up for their array of wides over the next ten minutes with a goal from McCloskey on the quarter hour mark. Ten minutes later McGoldrick followed suit and found the back of the Orchard County's net, ensuring that the visitors would take in a 2-5 to 0-4 lead at the break. Armagh raced out of the traps for the second half to send over scores from Carville, substitute Stephen McArdle and Thomas Turley, leaving themselves with some chance heading towards the final quarter. However a fine individual effort by McGoldrick saw him finish to the net and all but seal the game on 46 minutes, with Cormac McKenna and substitute Gavin Kelly pointing to the finish-line for the Oak Leafers as they look to retain their provincial crown for a second successive year.
