July 15, 2008
Guinness is bringing hurling off the pitch and into specially built 3D perspex cubes this summer and this week, Arthur's Quay in Limerick will host the roadshow for three nights, from Thursday 17th to Saturday 19th July. Limerick hurler, Ollie Moran, former Munster legend, Peter Clohessy and Munster's Paul O'Connell will attend the city final on Saturday 19th July. Played with 21" hurleys and a soft touch sliotar, the game is a fast paced and exciting derivative of the real thing, which was developed by Guinness, with expert guidance from former Cork Manager, Donal O'Grady. Teams of three players compete for either three minutes, or until three goals are scored ,Äì in a blitz format ,Äì over the course of the night. The nightly winners will battle it out in the Limerick city final on Saturday, with the four semi-finalists winning a trip to Dublin on the eve of the GAA All-Ireland Hurling final for the grand finale. Guinness Hurling Cubed,Ñ¢ has already visited Galway and Cork and was a huge success, with lots of people who had never played the game before taking part. "That,Äôs one of the great things about this game," said Ollie Moran, who is a big fan of Guinness Hurling Cubed. "You don,Äôt have to be a hurler to take part. It's about having some fun with the game, and enjoying hurling in a different way with your friends. It,Äôs brilliant fun." Moran is expecting Limerick fans to embrace the game and be the most successful roadshow to date. "I think Limerick people are going to really take to this game as we love our sport down here." Joining Moran at the city final on Saturday night will be Munster star Paul O'Connell and former Munster legend Peter "the Claw" Clohessy. Anyone who wants to take part can register in advance on www.guinness.com or on the night. All playing equipment is supplied by Guinness and people simply need to bring along their own sports gear.
