Munster MFC: Walsh fires Kingdom to provincial glory

July 13, 2008
Kerry 2-12 Tipperary 0-8 Ace full-forward Barry John Walsh hit an outstanding 2-4 to ensure Kerry would coast to a comfortable ten-point victory in Saturday's Munster MFC replay at Cusack Park, Ennis. After Tipp's late show in Pairc Ui Chaoimh that earned them this replay meeting, the Kingdom all but put their opponents out of reach by the first-half with a lead of 0-9 to 0-2 to boast. Walsh and James O'Donoghue done most of the point damage between them in the opening half-hour while Tipperary didn't have a score from play to their credit by the interval with two Conor Sweeney frees ensuring a seven-point gap at half-time. The second-half saw a Walsh takeover, which earned him his Man of the Match tag, with a brace of goals that ultimately sunk the Premier County. A quick break up field from Kerry eventually presented the full-forward with his first chance which he tucked away superbly. He raised the game's second green flag on 58 minutes from the penalty spot and at that there was no way back for Tipp as Kerry romped to provincial crown number 40.
