July 13, 2008
Mayo 0-10 Roscommon 0-7 A penalty save from Mayo 'keeper Robert Hennelly 12 minutes from time proved crucial for the Westerners as they saw off Roscommon with three points to spare in Sunday's Connacht MFC decider at Castlebar. Despite dominating the opening half of the game, Roscommon took in a slim one-point lead at 0-5 to 0-4 with eight wides for the Rossies to repent in the first half-hour. Dara Lennon's decent free-taking saw the visitors take a foothold in the game before Mayo had their first score after a 27-minute wait through Daniel O'Hara getting his side off the mark with a stylish effort A brace of white flags from Aidan Walsh followed for the hosts tome make sure they would go in at the break only trailing by the minimum. Roscommon add another eight wides to their tally in the second-half, which made way for Mayo to edge ahead 0-8 to 0-7 before Brian Murtagh was axed down in the square with 58 minutes on the clock. Lennon shouldered the responsibility of the penalty bound to turn the game and his shot wonderfully saved by Hennelly in the Mayo goal.
