Mulligan's soccer switch won't impact on Leitrim

July 11, 2008
Emlyn Mulligan will be available for Leitrim's Tommy Murphy Cup campaign, despite his recent decision to revive his soccer career with Sligo Rovers. The Melvin Gaels clubman, who has been Leitrim's top scorer this season and gave a flawless display of free-taking against Galway in their Connacht SFC semi-final defeat, has signed for the Sligo Rovers 'A' team and is set to make his return to action for the club in a reverse league clash with Bohemians at The Showgrounds on Sunday. "They approached me a couple of months ago to go back and I only gave it up to concentrate on the county team," he said. "It will be hard to fit it all in but I'm still eligible to play and I will try to balance the two." Sligo Rovers spokesman Keith O'Dwyer said they would have no problem releasing Mulligan for Tommy Murphy Cup or club championship games, even if they clash with soccer fixtures. Mulligan was previously on the books of Sligo Rovers in 2006 and starred at centre half for the under 21 side that reach the FAI Cup semi-final. He also appeared for the first team in their final game of that season.
