Kennelly backs Murphy for success

July 10, 2008
Tadhg Kennelly has backed former Carlow minor star Brendan Murphy to be playing in the AFL next season. Murphy has been a club mate of the Kerry native since joining the Sydney Swans late last year and predicts a promising future for the former Barrowsider protégé. "It'll be good to have another Irishman in the side," said Kennelly. "I've no doubt he'll play next year." As is customary with the sport, Murphy has bulked up since his time down under and has brought him some difficulties in getting use to, but Kennelly is confident that he will adjust and exciting about the prospect of playing alongside him in the future. "He's got to try and learn to run with the weight. It's given him some shin splints and groin problems but it seems to have cleared up and he's had a good month of football. "He's young, so he'll be a bit up and down but I've just told him to enjoy his football and play consistently. Even if he's playing bad, just go out and try things. But I'm very excited about the way he's gone about his game."
