On Saturday, 5th July, 2008, Fermanagh senior hurlers embark in their first game of the very competitive Nicky Rackard Competition.  This is a Round ì2î tie in which they play their near neighbours Leitrim.   Earlier this year the Ernesiders who played in Division 4 of the Allianz National Hurling League Division 4, easily overcame the north Connaught side with a score of Fermanagh 2 goals 12 points to 1 goal 8 points for Leitrim.  Fermanagh had also a home win against Monaghan with a score of 2 goals 10 points to 2 goals 5 points for the Farney men.  Then a third win on the trot against Cavan with a score of 1 goal 9 points for the Breffini boys to 1 goal 14 points for the Ernesiders.  Their only blip in this years National Hurling League when they suffered a massive defeat at the hands of Down with a score of 6 goals 18 points to 8 points for the visiting Fermanagh team.
