Cavanagh faces anxious wait
July 02, 2008
Tyrone attacker Colm Cavanagh is awaiting the results of a scan which will determine whether he will be able to play in their All-Ireland qualifier campaign.
Cavanagh injured his ankle in the drawn Ulster SFC quarter-final against Down, and although he was able to start the replay, the injury flared up again and he had to be replaced before half-time in Newry.
Tyrone manager Mickey Harte is now keeping his fingers crossed that the Moy clubman will be available for the All-Ireland qualifier against Louth on July 19 in Drogheda.
He said: "The injury was not healing very well so we sent him for a scan.
"That will prove or disprove whether he has suffered bone damage or not. Obviously if he has, that will not be very good news so we'll have to wait and see."
Reports that Owen Mulligan has made a full recovery from a hamstring injury appear wide of the mark with Harte admitting that the best he can hope for is a place on the subs bench against the Wee County.
"Owen is coming on much better, his progress has been good and while he has to catch up with his fitness at least he is in less pain.
"It will take hard work but I would not rule him out of making the squad. He should be an option on the bench."
