Connacht MFC: Rossies into decider

June 28, 2008
Roscommon 1-12 Galway 0-14 Roscommon booked their place in the ESB Connacht MFC final by overcoming Galway after extra-time last Saturday in Tuam. Eugene Stirtch struck a late goal to send the match into extra-time, and then the Rossies followed up with three unanswered points in the extra period to eclipse the Tribesmen's chances of a place in the provincial decider. It was the hosts who led at the break by the minimum margin thanks to Conor Doherty's point in the added on minutes of the half to give Galway a lead of 0-6 to 0-5 at half-time. Four points with out reply from the restart looked to have the young men in maroon and white on their way, but when JJ Greaney received his second caution on 65 minutes Galway would be up against it. The visitors responded with Darren McDermott firing over at corner-forward before Stritch hit the net a minute into injury-time. Roscommon edged past the home side in extra-time to book their place in the Connacht MFC decider where they will meet Mayo after their semi-final victory over Sligo in Castlebar.
