Fennelly blow for Cats

June 29, 2008
Kilkenny's Michael Fennelly has been ruled out of next Sunday's Leinster SHC final against Wexford after breaking a wrirst in a club game last weekend. The rising midfield star suffered the injury while playing for Ballyhale Shamrocks against Dunnamaggin in the local league-championship last Sunday, but only discovered the extent of the injury in recent days. A member of one of hurling's most famous families, Fennelly has established himself alongside club-mate James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick in the Kilkenny midfield this year, and his injury could sideline him for up to eight weeks. Fennelly's misfortune could pave the way for Derek Lyng to make his return to the side after a long injury lay-off. Lyng has yet to feature this year after undergoing ankle surgery early in the season but has since made a successful recovery.
