McConville aiming to go out on a high

June 29, 2008
Oisin McConville is hoping that Armagh can clear today's Ulster SFC semi-final hurdle against Down which would leave him just 70 minutes away from claiming a seventh provincial medal. The Crossmaglen ace knows this is his last shot at glory with the Orchard County after announcing that he will hang up his inter-county boots after this year's championship. And he is hoping that Armagh can stay in the championship long enough to give him a chance of playing a meaningful role in their request for further honours. "It's tricky because I want to be playing but I want Armagh to do well," said the 32-year-old, who has been kept in reserve for Sunday's game after only returning to training from a back problem in midweek. "The more we progress, the more chance I have of playing and pushing for a start. Obviously I'd like to go out on a high this year but at this stage it's all about Armagh. "If we get results as a team, then we will all get the rewards." The 2002 All-Ireland winner is hoping to see action at some stage in Clones. He explained: "I've done nothing for three weeks so it's a building process, one training session at a time. "I'm a lot happier than I was two weeks ago so that's a positive and I think I did enough to put myself forward to making some sort of effort on Sunday. "I have a lot of work to do to catch up on the others but hopefully I can come on and then push more for a start as the year goes on. "I hope we have plenty more matches to play."
