McConville not going back on retirement decision

June 25, 2008

Armagh's Oisin McConville
Oisin McConville has once again stated his intention to retire from inter-county football at the end of Armagh's championship campaign. The long-serving attacker, who has won six Ulster titles and one All-Ireland with the Orchard County as well as three All-Ireland club titles with Crossmaglen during a glittering career, revealed during the spring that this would be his last year in an Armagh jersey and he intends sticking by that decision. McConville has undergone three separate operations on a back problem in recent years and admits that the injuries have taken their toll. He missed Armagh's Ulster SFC quarter-final victory over Cavan when the problem resurfaced, but has declared himself fit for Sunday's semi-final against Down after coming through training on Tuesday night without any adverse effects. McConville plans to go into management some day, but unlike former Armagh team-mate Kieran McGeeney, won't be making the transition straight away.
