English fancies Clare and Wexford

June 20, 2008
In his column in this Saturday's Goalpost in the Racing Post, former All-Ireland winner Nicky English believes Clare will reach the Munster hurling final while Dublin hurlers have missed the boat. In this Saturday's Goalpost, expert pundit Nicky English has gone for a Clare victory in the Munster hurling championship. "At least with Clare you know what you're going to get - exactly what you got against Waterford and the same as you will get from any Mike Mac team. Hard work and fierce intensity will be high on the Thurles agenda," said English. "So with more question-marks shrouding Limerick's readiness, I just take Clare to shade this one." The former Tipperary manager and star player reckons that Dublin have missed the Leinster final boat. "I was bullish about the Dubs' prospects last week but having seen them pass up the best opportunity they've had in years of reaching a Leinster final, I think the pendulum has swung back Wexford's way and I've changed my mind ahead of tomorrow's replay. "In these games, you don't often get a second opportunity as golden as the first and I just fear Dublin heads might be harder to focus this weekend. Wexford will have been embarrassed by last week's first-half showing and you have to think John Meyler will be able to get more from his players. Dublin could rue last Saturday's missed chance for quite a while" GOALPOST is free with Saturday's Racing Post and is a must read for anyone serious about analysing the weekend games.
