McNamara seeks consistency

June 19, 2008
Mike McNamara has challenged his Clare players to build on their stunning Munster SHC first round victory over Waterford by securing a place in the provincial decider at Limerick's expense on Sunday. After a couple of disappointing seasons, the Banner County showed a welcome return to form with a nine-point defeat of the reigning provincial champions, and they are now aiming to take another prized scalp in the form of last year's beaten All-Ireland finalists. "There has to be consistency. One performance doesn't make a summer," McNamara said. "If we could only produce one performance then it would be a very disappointing year for us. If that was the sum total of our ability, we would be devastated if we can't at least produce that form again. "If that form is good enough then marvellous. If not then at least we are working consistently on that level." The Scariff man reckons Limerick are going into Sunday's semi-final in an ideal situation as he believes they weren't given the credit they deserved for reaching last year's All-Ireland final. "It is marvellous to be written off," he said. "It is a wonderful thing for a team themselves. It ignites the passion inside you. All sportsmen are the same. They want to prove people wrong. "Nothing ignites passion more than failure and maybe people knocking you down."
