Maghery Sean MacDermott's Club News

June 18, 2008
MON 16 JUNE SEAN MAC DERMOTTS GAC SENIOR FOOTBALL ACL DIV 1 MATCH REPORT Maghery travelled to Armagh city on Friday evening for their first league clash with Pearse Ogs this year. The game turned out to be an evenly matched affair, reflective in the final score line of 1 - 4 each. Maghery's league experience this season got even more bizarre as they recorded all their match scores in the first half only, failing to affect the scoreboard in the second half. It was Eamon Robinson who got the MacDermott's goal, and he also notched up a point from play too. Maghery's other three points came from the boot of Seamus Forker (2 frees). Ogs scored 1 - 1 before the interval and trailed to Maghery's 1 - 4 at half time. However it was the city side that had the more productive second half, adding three more points to their tally over the latter thirty minutes in contrast to Maghery's stalemate. And so the teams shared the spoils when the final whistle sounded at the Cathedral Road venue: Pearse Ogs 1 - 4, Maghery 1 - 4. PAT MC MAHON CUP A much depleted Maghery side was defeated by Clan na Gael on Monday night at Lurgan in the Pat McMahon Cup competition. ACL DIV 1 - FIXTURE Maghery play Mullaghbawn this weekend at Felix Hamill Park, Maghery. The Larrybo Cusack and Rosemary Corr Tournament 2008 This Saturday, SATURDAY 21ST JUNE is the date of Maghery's annual and very successful underage event - namely 'The Larrybo Cusack and Rolo Corr Tournament'. Youth teams representing the clubs of Wolfe Tones, Madden, St Paul's, St Mary's Aghagallon, St John's Annaghmore, Brackaville, Derrytresk and of course, Maghery will compete in a series of matches throughout the day, with the highlight being the two respective cup finals. Teams have been asked to assemble at Felix Hamill Park at 10.30am, ready for the 11am throw-in. Maghery stalwart Dixie Robinson will, as in previous years, over-see the affair, well assisted by his group of helpers. There will be complimentary refreshments for the children during the course of the day, and popular group 'Revive 45' will be entertaining in the clubrooms that evening. Barbequed food will also be on sale during the day in our decking area. Not only does this tournament provide invaluable sporting experiences for the young gaels participating, but it is a chance for our close-knit gaelic community in Maghery to remember two very special individuals who sadly are no longer with us, but whose memories will always be held dear. NORTH ARMAGH'S GAELIC WEEK The North Armagh initiative 'Gaelic Week' takes between Saturday 21 June and Saturday 28 June. All clubs in the area will take part in a variety of ways which highlight our great wealth of gaelic culture. Maghery's role in the weeks events are detailed on the notice board in the clubrooms and will be included in this week's Parish Bulletin. But basically, all club members and associates are asked to attend the climax-event on Saturday 28 June which will commence with a Mass at St Peter's Church (12 noon), followed by a parade through Lurgan town lead by The Artane Boys Band. It will finish with an open air concert at Davitt Park. Final transport arrangements are in the making and will be relayed to all very soon. Patrons are asked to turn out on the 28th in their club colours to march behind their club float. As this will be a great platform from which to showcase each club, it is hoped that the gaelic community in Maghery will put in a good turn out and represent and promote our loughshore club well.
