Ahearne eager for more

Waterford under-21 hurling boss Shane Ahearne believes that the county board cannot make the same mistake again with regards the late appointment of a manager to the grade. Ahearne was appointed to the role only a few weeks before the Munster championship defeat to Limerick last week and the former county hurler stressed that it is not near enough time to prepare any side for a match of that importance. Waterford suffered a hammering at the hands of the Shannonsiders, but it has not put Ahearne off looking for another stint in the role next year. "It's crazy to be honest. I had my first training session with this team on May 5th and here we are a month later playing our first game in the championship. I think that six months is the minimum amount you should have with a team," said Ahearne. "I wouldn't mind doing the job again. I felt that there are a good bunch of players there and they are some underage next year and a lot of good talent coming through. I wouldn't mind putting my name in the ring but maybe other people would want a shot at it as well."
