Leinster JFC: O'Brien hat-trick sinks Cats

May 29, 2008
A hat-trick of goals from Sean O'Brien helped Wicklow to an unconvincing victory over Kilkenny in the Leinster JFC at Nowlan Park on Wednesday evening. Wicklow...4-9 Kilkenny...1-8 The visitors settled quickly and goals from former senior Jonathan Daniels and O'Brien inside the first eight minutes immediately put them in control. O'Brien's second major helped them to a 3-5 to 0-5 lead at the interval. Fielding their first team, Kilkenny got themselves back into contention when Sean Mahony netted within a minute of the restart. The Cats grew in confidence thereafter and outscored the opposition by 0-3 to 0-1 over the next 20 minutes to further increase the pressure on Wicklow. However, O'Brien's third goal in the 51st minute finally ended the Kilkenny challenge.
