Ulster MFC: Second-half haul seals win for Farney

May 25, 2008
Monaghan hit 2-4 and conceded nothing in a resounding second-half display which saw them overcome Fermanagh to book their spot in the last four of the ESB Ulster MFC. Fermanagh 2-3 Monaghan 2-7 Fermanagh entered this game as favourites to progress to the provincial semi-finals and justified that somewhat with two first-half goals from Tomas Corrigan and the frees of Ryan Jones that put them into a six point lead the break, 2-3 to 0-3. As it proved, Bernie Murray's side had plentiful in reserve as Ciaran Hughes was sprung from the bench for the Farney County to hit 1-1 and turn the tide early in the second-half. Dermot Malone cracked in Monaghan's second goal for a lead his side would not relinquish for the remaining 20 minutes left in the match. Fermanagh's attacking threats were contained well from the restart and the white flags from the prolific Aaron McCarey at full forward, who hit 0-4 from play, for Monaghan made sure that the tables were firmly turned on the Erne County come the sounding of Jimmy Galligan's full-time whistle.
