Connacht MFC: Cummins helps Galway book semi spot
May 18, 2008
Five points from David Cummins helped Galway steer a two-point victory away to Sligo at Markievicz Park in the ESB Connacht MFC quarter-finals.
Galway 0-11
Sligo 0-9
Sligo took in a 0-7 to 0-5 lead at the break, mainly due to some superb centre-forward play from David Maye, but Galway had squandered two goal-chances in this period, the first a missed penalty from Oisin O'Brien, and the second a Patrick Sweeny effort which hit the post, that should have gained them the lead at half-time.
The hosts looked to have been edging the second-half but failed to score in the final quarter and points from Cummins and David Shallow towards full-time saw the Tribesmen regain a lead which they would not relinquish.
The semi-finals now pair Galway with Roscommon while Sligo face Mayo under the new MFC system.
