Fennelly quits Mount Sion role

May 10, 2008
Kilkenny hurling legend Liam Fennelly has resigned as manager of top Waterford club side Mount Sion after just two championship games in charge. The former double All-Ireland winning captain quit the post in the wake of disastrous championship losses to Abbeyside and Lismore in recent weeks. The results leave the traditional kingpins, who can count Ken McGrath, Eoin McGrath and Tony Browne among their star performers, with a mountain to climb if they are stay in the championship race. An emergency meeting of the club's executive was called on Wednesday night at which Fennelly and his selectors Kevin Power and Senan Sutton announced they were stepping down. Former Mount Sion player and county selector Kevin Ryan has agreed to take charge for the remainder of the season.
