Younger Shanahan destroys Kingdom

May 01, 2008
Dan Shanahan's younger brother Maurice bagged 3-2 as Waterford routed Kerry by 36 points in this ESB Munster minor hurling championship mis-match at Killarney on Wednesday night. Waterford...8-15 Kerry.....0-3 The Kingdom's future involvement in the championship must be called into question after a game that neither team will have benefited from. The visitors picked off their scores at will and after leading by 2-12 to 0-2 at half-time, they scored five quick goals early in the second half to leave Kerry feeling completely demoralised. Shanahan opened the scoring after just 45 seconds and that set the tone for the rest of the game. Kerry had to wait until the 21st minute for their first score from Darragh O'Connell, by which time Waterford had already posted 2-7. Goals after half-time from Shanahan (two), Adam Brophy (two) and Cormac Curran, who finished with 1-8, had propelled the visitors into a 7-12 to 0-3 lead after 42 minutes, and they eased off the pedal thereafter.
