Leinster MFC wins for Offaly and Louth

April 27, 2008
Offaly and Louth got their Leinster minor football championship campaigns back on track by registering qualifier wins over Carlow and Kildare respectively on Saturday. Faithful County manager Declan McGovern successfully plotted the downfall of his former Carlow charges with a 1-12 to 0-9 victory at Dr Cullen Park. The home side looked to be in control when they led by 0-6 to 0-4 at half-time, but Offaly outscored them by 1-8 to 0-1 in the final 25 minutes to set up a meeting with Kilkenny. Offaly never looked back after Bernard Allen's goal brought them level in the 44th minute as Carlow were left to rue kicking seven first half wides. Losers to Meath in the first round proper, Louth produced a strong second half performance to overcome Kildare by 1-14 to 0-13 at Drogheda. The visitors led by 0-10 to 0-7 at half-time, but the game turned in the Wee County's favour when Dean Matthews grabbed the only goal in the 42nd minute. Meanwhile, Roscommon made it two wins from two in the Connacht minor championship round-robin section when they overcame Sligo by 0-11 to 1-6.
