MFC: Holders out

April 20, 2008
Louth halted Laois' defence of the ESB Leinster minor football title following a spirited display at Portlaoise, which saw them run out winners by 1-13 to 0-09. Louth 1-13 Laois 0-09 Kevin Rogers proved to be the hero for Louth as he held his nerve to convert a late penalty, which sealed Laois fate after the visitors were on top throughout. The manner of the defeat will not have pleased the home support as Louth dominated proceedings with Dean Matthews, Rogers and Barry O'Hare in particular notching fine scores. Laois star Donie Kingston kept the O'Moore County in touch from frees, but they just had no answer to a slicker Louth outfit. Louth now go to meet Kildare in the next round and many will fancy the Wee County's chances of going all the way following this performance.
