Casey quits Offaly

April 11, 2008
Offaly's highly-rated young forward Ken Casey has quit the county panel after being brought on and then substituted during the recent NFL win over Waterford. The St. Brigid's clubman, who was mistakenly played while under suspension last year (Offaly were deducted a league point as a result), was introduced at half-time, but was taken off 29 minutes later and replaced by James Coughlan. Casey was apparently furious with the decision and has since withdrawn his services. The Croghan man's departure is a major blow to Offaly, whose over-reliance on Niall McNamee for scores has been well documented. Meanwhile, there is strong speculation that former Offaly full back Conor Evans is set to transfer from his native Ballyfore to top Dublin club St. Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh. If the transfer is granted, Dublin-based Evans - who has featured for UCD in the past - could soon be linking up with Dublin stars Alan and Bernard Brogan, Jason Sherlock and Ross McConnell.
