Rebels too strong for Limerick

April 10, 2008
Goals from Ciaran Sheehan and Brendan Horgan propelled holders Cork to a comfortable first round victory over Limerick in this ESB Munster MFC clash at the Gaelic Grounds on Wednesday night. Cork....2-13 Limerick....0-10 Favoured by the breeze in the first half, Mick Slocum's charges were quickly out of the blocks and led by 1-5 to 0-2 after 20 minutes with the impressive Sheehan pouncing for the opening goal. However, the home side rallied late in the half with points from free-taker Paraic McEnery to trail by 0-6 to 1-8 at the break. The Shannonsiders could have reduced the deficit to two points early in the second half, but Cork 'keeper Darren Farry denied Shane Garry with a brilliant save. Following that let-off, the Rebels gradually pulled away with corner forward Cian Fleming slotting over three unanswered frees before Horgan wrapped up the win with a second goal in injury-time.
