U21FC: Kingdom land another provincial title

April 05, 2008
Kerry landed their first Cadbury's U21 FC title since 2002 at Ardfinnan thanks to a gritty 0-15 to 2-7 win over a game Tipperary side. Impressive Tipp wing back Brian Fox scored a brilliant 10th minute goal but the visitors recovered to go in on level terms, 0-7 to 1-4, at half-time. Tipp keeper Matthew O'Donnell produced a superb double save in the 13th minute and another seven minutes before half-time to keep a mis-firing Kerry at bay. With the breeze at their backs, four unanswered points after half-time gave Kerry some breathing space but Sean Carey then goaled for Tipp with 12 minutes remaining to make it a two point game, 2-5 to 0-13. Kerry senior Tommy Walsh crucially pointed for his side though as Tipp agonisingly fell short of causing a major upset.
