McIver rues poor Donegal display

Brian McIver couldn't hide his disappointment after Donegal succumbed to neighbours Tyrone in Sunday's rescheduled NFL Division 1 clash at Edendork. "We were in a good position at half-time," he said. "But we didn't play in the second half. We got cleaned out around the middle of the field. We got destroyed in breaking ball. McIver was especially disappointed with the lack of ambition shown by his team. "Rather than driving at them, we footered about around the half back line instead of getting the ball moving. We were in a position to win but we didn't do it." McIver's opposite number Mickey Harte subscribed to the view that his side wanted victory more. "Maybe it was because the points were more necessary for us than for Donegal. That might have been the telling factor in the end. We would have been slipping back into the relegation zone if we hadn't got those points. Donegal are quite safe with their six points. We needed it a little bit more," he said. "We are still not a finished product by any stretch of the imagination. There is not a huge amount of fluency about what we are doing. But to carve out that result is very valuable to the team. It is days like that which matter in the long run."
