Ross race to victory

March 29, 2008
Roscommon produced a tremendous second half display to book their place in this year's Cadbury's Connacht U21 FC final thanks to a 1-11 to 1-9 win over Sligo in Kiltoom. The winners looked in dire trouble when Conor Devaney was sent off just before the interval as Sligo boasted a 1-7 to 0-5 lead, thanks in part to Eoin McHugh's goal in the 32nd minute and some superb play by Stephen Coen and Danny O'Grady up front. But Roscommon refused to panic and their revival kicked off with a fine Enda Kenny goal on 40 minutes plus some superb free-taking by Donie Shine. With 11 of their All-Ireland MFC-winning side on board, Roscommon dug deep to edge home and thus book a place in the provincial decider against Mayo on Wednesday week in Kiltoom.
